Memories 4 - 10
LET'S PLAY CATCH-UP
ACTUAL THOUGHTS TO COME AT SOME OTHER POINT IN TIME
Memory #4: Yumi sacrificing herself to save Shishio during the fight in Kyoto [106-119]
What He Remembered/Learned:
- That he was fighting Shishio for some reason
- Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki
- Shishio can't fight for more than 15 minutes because of his burnt body
- Komagata Yumi, Shishio's lover
- Shishio stabbing through Yumi to get to Kenshin
- Yumi was okay with it, even happy that she got to help him
- He was already hurt badly, and it was nearing the decisive move to end the fight
- The scar on his right side is from this fight
Thoughts:
Memory #5: Yahiko wanting to become stronger [87-95]
What He Remembered/Learned:
- Yahiko
- His full name
- He's a wanderer
- He rescued Yahiko from a gang, who was threatening to kill him. Had to do with Yahiko's parents.
- NOT the first meeting, he met Yahiko before this memory
- Yahiko wants to be stronger, to defend his parents' honor
- Kamiya Kasshin Ryu
- Hands Yahiko over to Kaoru for training
- Remembers Kaoru, but not that the girl is Kaoru
- . . . Yahiko and Kaoru don't get along
Thoughts:
Memory #6: Receiving the Sakabatou [Bottom of 118-120]
What He Remembered/Learned:
- Left the war after the Ishin Shishi won the first battle of Toba Fushimi
- Fought for a new era, with a new government
- Left to search out a way of protecting those who live in the new era without killing
- Started using the -dono prefix *
- Shakku-dono is the one who gave him the sakabatou
- "If you live by the sword, you die by the sword."
- The sakabatou is a reversed-blade sword
* THIS IS AN ASSUMPTION since he doesn't use it before and right after Tomoe's death.
Thoughts:
Memory #7: Kaoru beating on him
What He Remembered/Learned:
- He's a better cook than Kaoru
- Kaoru does not like this
- Kaoru shows this through ABUSE
* This isn't a specific canon memory, so there aren't any actual pages to link. However, it IS partially a scene from the anime, as well as a slice of life deal, so I figure that's close enough.
Thoughts:
Memory #8: Doing Laundry
What He Remembered/Learned:
- How to do laundry
- Best techniques for removing stains of various kinds
- His favorite chore, calms him and lets him focus on one thing
* Again, this isn't a specific canon memory, but he does laundry enough in the damn series.
Thoughts:
Memory #9: Learning that he only has about five years left to practice Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu. [77-78]
What He Remembered/Learned:
- His body is deteriorating
- Knew it was happening
- Began just slightly after the Kyoto fight
- He could feel something becoming "stagnant"
- The succession technique was probably the trigger
- Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu is a technique made for someone big and muscular, not small.
- Four or five years left of using Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, and being a swordsman
Thoughts:
Memory #10: Jin'eh, nearly losing himself to his Hitokiri side. [102-153]
What He Remembered/Learned:
- Jin'eh
- Kidnapped Kaoru to get to him
- His manners change when he's angry - ie, his way of speaking, he drops the polite tones of the rurouni
- HELLA FIGHT MEMORIES
- Jin'eh has a "trick" called Shin no Ippou in which he freezes his opponents in place; it doesn't work on Kenshin
- Actual memories of reading and predicting an opponent's movements
- Jineh's aim was to bring out the Battousai side of him
- Used a stronger form of Shin no Ippou on Kaoru, paralyzing her lungs, unable to be broken easily - two minutes for Kaoru to live
- Lost control after this; the Battousai was awaken
- Which means he's willing to go against his vow, to save Kaoru
- Apparently he has REALLY STRONG KILLING AURA
- Jin'eh was formerly of the Shinsengumi
- Battou-jutsu - the art of drawing a sword, fastest technique of the Hiten Mitsuru Ryu
- This technique is why he's called Battousai
- Double battou-jutsu -Sou Ryu Sen
- Came VERY CLOSE to actually killing Jin'eh, but was stopped when Kaoru broke the Shin no Ippou
- "To protect Kaoru-dono, I will become the hitorkiri once again!"
- After Kaoru's yelling, he switched back to the rurouni mannerisms
- Jin'eh, unable to accept not being killed, killed himself
- Politicians were involved in hiring Jin'eh
- "A hitokiri kills of his own free will, but does not choose his own targets"
- "A hitokiri is a hitorkiri until death"
- APPARENTLY NO ONE FROM HIS PAST BELIEVES HE CAN REMAIN A WANDERER
- Is well aware that if Kaoru hadn't stopped him, he would've broken his vow
- H-he got Kaoru's indigo ribbon all bloody, which resulted in ABUSE
- DOESN'T want to become the hitokiri again
- Sano and Yahiko are dumb, ie: "So you met up with her and didn't come home until early morning, eh?" "Aren't you the smart guy. Did you finally do it?" "..."
